This is how you can binge watch and stat healthy

This is how you can binge watch and stat healthyThis is how you can binge watch and stat healthyDowning an entire season in one go has been the default way to watch TV for some time now. About 70% of Americans admit to being certified binge watchers. Surprisingly, occasional binge-watching has been shown to yield some positive results.UC Santa Barbara communication professor Robin Nabis media research with breast cancer survivors confirmed television to be an effective method of quieting major stressors.A recent study published in Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity, and the Arts, showed how binge-watching dramas can boost emotional intelligence, particularly empathy.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moraUnfortunately, as it turns out, you can have too much of a good thing. Healthline reports that habitually consuming more than three and a half hours of television at a time can lead to cognitive decline in both language and memory. Additionally, researchers from the University of Liverpool discovered that people that ate while distracted by TV ate 25% more than normal. AJapanese Collaborative Cohort Study found that excessive TV consumption could even lead to premature death.Wanna live to binge season three of 13 Reasons Why? Heres how you can, according to a psychologist.Counter-balanceBinge watching your favorite show isnt a problem in and of itself. It has more to do with the kind of unhealthy behavior being a committed couch potato tends to promote and the healthy habits it tends to mute. Psychologist Dr. Scott Bea identifies the sweet comfort of staring at a screen for three hours to be a chemical one. Its hard to pull yourself away- so have a plan before you start, says Bea.He suggests having a number of episodes in mind before engaging. This makes it easier to hold yourself accountable. Establishing a limit also keeps us from slipping into that mindless state that extreme Netflix trips seem to induce. If we know were only allowing ourselves three episodes, for instance, were more likely to remain focused and alert. To avoid the anti-social behavior associated with regular binge-watching, Dr. Bea says we should make a point to never binge alone. If youre gonna watch all eight episodes of Russian Doll at once, do it with a buddy or a partner. It forces you to interact and communicate, effectively breaking up the LCD spell. In this context, the show isnt just a mindless distraction its also a topic of connection and conversation. To that point Attempt to avoid watching TV simply to detract yourself as much as possible. Try to make it a mindful experience. Allow yourself to be compelled by the characters and plot lines not just enamored by the flashy colors on the screen. If you feel like taking your mind off of stuff, survey your options. Perhaps theres something slightly more intellectually fulfilling that you could be doing. This next one is a little heretical, but its also pretty resourceful.Everyone knows a good binge session loves horrible food, but what if we supplanted the Pringles curl with light dumbbell curls? Or maybe try speeding through your favorite show while on the treadmill at your local gym.At the very least Dr. Bea suggests we replace unhealthy snacks with fruits or other low-calorie bites. Air Force Fraternization Policies

Air Force Fraternization PoliciesAir Force Fraternization PoliciesThe Air Force fraternization policy is contained in Air Force Instruction 36-2909. The Air Force places a high value on professional relationships within its ranks, which are vital to the functional effectiveness of the service. The Air Force and its work environments differ greatly from what you find in a civilian work environment, with missions involving difficult challenges, hardships and the potential for injury and even death. As such, unit cohesion, morale, good order, ??discipline and respect for authority are essential to mission success, and anything that might interfere with the interests of the Air Force.? What Is a Professional Relationship in the Air Force? The Air Force defines a professional relationship this way Professional relationships arethose interpersonal relationships consistent with Air Force core values integrity first, service before self, and excellence in all we do. Military members under stand that the needs of the institution will sometimesoutweigh personal desires. Professional relationships encourage communication between members, and between members and their superiors. This boosts morale, focuses on the mission at pranke and preserves respect for authority. Personal Relationships and the Air Force Mission Normally, personal relationships of Air Force members are ones of individual choice and judgment however, if a personal relationship becomes a problem that affects the functioning of a unit, it is ceases to be personal and becomes an official concern. These are considered unprofessional relationships. The Air Force defines unprofessional relationships in this way Relationships are unprofessional, whether pursued on or off-duty, when they detract from the authority of superiors or result in, or reasonably create the appearance of, favoritism, misuse of office or position, or the abandonment of organizational goals for personal interests. Unprofessional rela tionships can exist between officers, between enlisted members, between officers and enlisted members, and between military personnel and civilian employees or contractor personnel. Fraternization is considered an unprofessional relationship. What Is Fraternization in the Air Force? The Air Force frowns on personal relationships between officers and enlisted members, both on and off-duty. Those engaging in fraternization can be brought up on Uniform Code Military Justice (UCMJ) charges. A relationship is considered fraternization even if the parties are in different units, different commands or even different branches of service. Fraternizations is defined in the Manual for Courts-martial as A personal relationship between an officer and an enlisted member that violates the customary bounds of acceptable behavior in the Air Force and prejudices good order and discipline, discredits the armed services, or operates to the personal disgrace or dishonor of the officer involved...Off icers must not engage in any activity with an enlisted member that reasonably may prejudice good order and discipline, discredit the armed forces or compromise an officers standing. The custom against fraternization in the Air Force extends beyond organizational and chain of command lines. In short, it extends to all officer/enlisted relationships. Any of the following actions or behaviors are considered fraternization. Officers are prohibited from Gambling with enlisted membersLending money to, borrowing money from or otherwise becoming indebted to enlisted members. Exceptions to this are infrequent, non-interest-bearing loans of small amounts to meet exigent circumstances.Engaging in sexual relations with or dating enlisted members. The Air Force definition of dating is broad, covering not only the traditional idea of dating as a prearranged, social engagements, but as anything that is more contemporary and would reasonably be perceived to be a substitute for traditional dating. S haring living accommodations with enlisted members. Exceptions are when it is reasonably required by military operations.Engaging in business enterprises with enlisted members on a personal basis. This includes solicitation for sales to enlisted members. Marriage and Fraternization in the Air Force Marriage in and of itself is not considered fraternizations or misconduct, and some situations exist that may be technically defined as fraternization, but these are exceptions. For example, the commissioning of a civilian who is married to an enlisted. But getting married does not shield service members from charges of fraternization. A relationship that begins between an officer and an enlisted member who then marry can still be considered fraternization, as the relationship was initiated contrary to Air Force custom.

How to Manage Entrepreneurial-Minded Employees

How to Manage Entrepreneurial-Minded EmployeesHow to Manage Entrepreneurial-Minded EmployeesHow to Manage Entrepreneurial-Minded Employees Bennington, Contributing WriterSee if this sounds familiar. Youve justbrought ona new hire(say a Gen Y or new grad) who you really like well, except for one small problem Theyre gunning to move up.Like, now.And while you think theyre just dipping a toe in their current role, theyre pushing for more responsibility and higzu sich pay. This is a very tricky and very common dilemma for managers today. In fact, I just interviewed a young woman who welches 12 weeks into the workforce and already frustrated with her career. She worked for a great company, had a great manager and liked her job so what was the deal? Get this Her position had a two-year promotion track. Two years is like a decade to me, were her exact words.ManagingRacehorsesI know, I know Youre thinking thats ridiculous and she should feel lucky to be employed, right? Well, frankly, thats th e problem. Because for as much as we like to moan about how long we had to pay our dues (and walk 8 miles in the snow) while insisting the next generation do the same, the fact of the matter is that its a different world.Yes, we can blame the parents for coddling their kids to the point thatthey expect you to cave in too.But it still doesnt change the fact thattop talent a.k.a. the ones we all want to hire are like racehorses behind the starting line. Theyre stomping, chomping at the bit, and just waiting for the doors of opportunity to fly open so they can chase the career carrot.Perhaps you recall the feeling. After all, its the reason you started your business in the first place. You wanted that entrepreneurial paradox of control and freedom. And so do they.Stoking Entrepreneurial EngagementAlright maybe you cant give them control. (After all, thats your job, right?) But there is something else you can give that means just at much if not more at this stage in their career. You ca n give them progress.Because heres the thing Its easy for new grads to feel as if theyre falling behind when were all surrounded by tales of 27-year-old CEOs. (Geez, even I feel behind sometimes) But if your hire feels that he or she is learning, growing, and advancing their skills and network they will reward you with employee loyaltyJust ask my first boss, Skip Lineberg, who turned what was supposed to be a temp job (for me) into a six year partnership not to mention a book deal.In retrospect, Im a little embarrassed to admit this but when I started working with Skip I asked for a promotion after just nine months. Here is the super-savvy way he managed it.First, he listened. He didnt try and convince me that I was too inexperienced or that nine months in the workforce was a little too early to get yippy about moving up. Instead, he heard me out and, after I made my case, he said hed give it some thought. Then, he asked me to prove my worth. He presented me with a simple one-pager called, Prove youre worth it. It was a list of 10 tasks I had to pick seven to complete in addition to the keeping up with the responsibilities of my current role. The list included things likePicking a system in the office I felt could be improved and telling him how Id fix it.Hosting a Lunch n Learn for the rest of the staff.Attending a professional development course.Reading a classic business book and writing a summary of what I learned and how I was going to apply it to my job.You get the idea.Next, a check-in. He asked me to check-in with him after Id finished a task or if I had any questions along the way. After that, I was on my own. And while my manager never gave me a formal deadline (I suspect that was a not-so-subtle initiative test) it took me about 6 months to get all seven tasks complete. However, when everything was said and done I got the promotion and he got to buy some time.He also got to evaluate how I handled stress, how I solved problems, how committed I was, observemy employeeattitude and if what I would bring to jumping through those hoops to earn that new position.Smart cookie, huh? This was definitely a win-win for both of us and an exceptional example of great management skills. So if your Gen Y workers or new grads or any employee really feels like theyre ready to move up, but youre not quite sure, remember Make em prove theyre worth it.If they are trust me they will.Author BioEmily Bennington specializes in two distinct forms of career transition college students entering the workforce and women leaders entering executive management. Moving from my Xiaomi Redmi 3 as my everyday driver, it is a completely new world. Child mode is really useful when youre handing your device to children, since the phone shows very restricted content and you maynot acccess many of the apps with it. Yo u can find this kind of service at once, all you need to do is to get in quntchen with us, and our team will be prepared to help at all times. Rooting your android gives your device more customization and total authority to utilize your device like you desire. In addition, this phone packs a battery of 2800mAh which isnt removable. And theres no streuwert scanner within this model. A fingerprint sensor is also feasible. While the accuracy of the fingerprint sensor i s very good, it requires a while for the phone to awaken and unlock. Gossip, Lies and Redmi 4a Now that you understand what you are likely to enjoy and love about the Redmi Note 4, have a peek at this telephone online. Thats the intriguing question If you anticipate buying the Redmi 4A but have some questions regarding the handset, take a look at our FAQ below. There is an easy answer to the way to remove Mi account, thats using Mi account unlock tools. The device may also be equipped with stock Android. It sports an app called Second Space that has been out since last calendar year. On the other hand, the smartphone is presently available on Gearbest with free worldwide delivery. It is among the very first smartphones with Qualcomms most up-to-date processor, the Snapdragon 820. The Rise of Redmi 4a With a huge 4100mAh battery, I managed to regularly get 6 hours of screen in time every single day without a problem. Its body has a matte finish that makes it very attracti ve to check at. Typically, It will take under 10 seconds for flashing. Then after follow these actions to root your mobile phone. The blue model particularly looks stunning, and it earns the device stick out in a sea of similar-looking metallic phones. The entire metallic body provides the user with a rather premium feel, and Xiaomi has very wisely finished the top layer of the phone with a powdered metallic finish rather than a glossy one. Added to this is a rather slim frame that provides the telephone style and appeal. A massive blaze is observed around the monitor. It feels tough and constructed to last, and it seems good too. The phone has a rather quick quntchen access. The size provides a wonderful compromise between obtaining a compact design and a huge screen for enjoying media. In well-lit conditions, it may take some amazing landscape shots. Sharpness is likewise a problem with a great deal of jagged edges and pixelation in any complicated shot such as dense f oliage. Why Almost Everything Youve Learned About Redmi 4a Is Wrong The results can be somewhat unflattering. The low light operation of the camera is not too excellent. It it and with more money If your payout is substantial enough, you might decide that this is the opportunity you&39ve been waiting for to start you r own business. You should, of course, do this after some serious planning and consideration but, if you&39ve always had the perfect business plan in the back of your mind, now could be the time to go for it. If things really are getting too much and you&39re not koranvers what you want to do, perhaps this is the time to take a break. If your funds are sufficient, do some travelling or some volunteer work. Try to work out what you really want from life, and then get on with it. Don&39t be ashamed of your redundancy when putting yourself back on the market. It&39s a world away from being sacked and most employers agree that it is better to have one redundancy on your CV than two short-term jobs, both of which you left of your own accord. Dealing With Rejection During the Job SearchDealing With Rejection During the Job SearchUse these tips to get past rejection and land an even better job.Dont let the rejection eat you up inside.Say thank you. The lessons you learned in kindergarten also apply to your job search. As Come Recommendeds Heather Huhman points out, manners matter. Write a thoughtful thank you note to those with whom you interviewed, thanking them for their time and consideration. The world is smaller than you think make sure your professional brand remains intact by sending a short, sweet note.Ask for feedback.Find out what you could do better in your next interview. Sohonigweinimes recruiters especially those who want to place you with another company are motivated to share feedback that will make you a more attractive candidate. That said, dont count on receiving feedback after every interview. When you do receive it, treat the feedback as a gift and use it to nail your next job interview.Stay in touc h.Send personalized LinkedIn connect requests to those you met during the interview, and touch base with these connections once a quarter. When possible, find a specific reason to reach out, such as sending holiday greetings, sharing a news article that you thought would interest the person, or congratulating them on a promotion or work anniversary. This is especially useful if you made it to the final interview round but did not get the job. This way, if things dont work out with the other candidate, youve done something nice to keep your brand top of mind.Move on.Weve all been there. You get so excited about this one opportunity that youre convinced youll land the job. As a result, all your other job-search activities take a back seat while you prepare for the interview. Dont fall into this trap. Instead, continue pursuing new job leads. This way, if the opportunity doesnt work out, you wont be back at square one with your job search.

3 Ways to Reduce Inappropriate Expense Report Requests Management Resources

3 Ways to Reduce Inappropriate Expense Report Requests Management Resources 3 Ways to Reduce Inappropriate Expense Report Requests Management Resources You would think in the digital age, where company policies are more shareable and accessible than ever before, employees would know what types of expense report requests are acceptable - and not. However, findings from a recent Robert Half Management Resources survey suggest that there is no shortage of inappropriate expense report requests being submitted by workers. In fact, only 11 percent of CFOs interviewed said they have seen a decline in improper requests over the past three years. Some of the requests employees have made are downright off-the-wall - not to mention totally outrageous, in some cases. The CFOs who took part in our survey cited an array of unusual items that they have seen, including taxidermy services, dance classes, a flat-screen TV and rental homes. Check out our slideshow to see the 20 top unusual expense report requests from this year’s survey! In an article for the American Management Association (AMA), Tim Hird, executive director for Robert Half Management Resources, notes, “Amusing as (these) examples may be, the reality is that inappropriate expenses are costly to companies’ bottom lines.” He also presents three strategies that can help managers reduce the number of off-base expense report requests that come across their desks. 4 Ways to Impress Your Interviewer in the First 5 Minutes

4 Ways to Impress Your Interviewer in the First 5 Minutes 4 Ways to Impress Your Interviewer in the First 5 Minutes If you’re on the interview circuit, you likely know that you need to research the company you're interviewing with, bring multiple copies of your resume, and arrive early (but not too early) to your interview. But what you might not know is that there are several concrete things you can do early on in your interview to get off to a great start. Here are four ways to impress an interviewer in the first five minutes of your interview. 1. Be inquisitive. At the end of most interviews, the interviewer asks the applicant if they have any questions. But you don’t have to wait for that last moment to voice your opinions or show off your inquisitive mind. Instead, arrive with prepared questions at your disposal. Asking specific things that demonstrate your attention to detail and confidence shows that you’re interested, have spent time thinking about the company, and are excited to learn more. In addition, listen to your interviewer and note if you have any questions in the moment, and then find a good moment to pose your question. Being inquisitive in this way shows off your listening skills, you're interested in the position, and you don't only ask canned questions. 2. Make eye contact. Before you open your mouth, the way you hold yourself says a lot about you. If you have to wait when you arrive, be mindful of your body language while you sit. Try not to convey nervous ticks, postures that can make you seem standoffish such as folding your arms, or staring ahead. When potential coworkers walk by, don’t be afraid to exchange a friendly nod. Most importantly, eye contact is key. People who shift their gaze back and forth can come across as being unfriendly or dishonest, while those who stare at the floor or away from the person speaking can appear unconfident. So try to immediately make contact with your interviewer when you meet them, and then hold that contact. 3. Mention something you have in common. If you’ve done your homework on who your interview will be with, you’ve likely picked up some tidbits about them. Use this information to your advantage. If you know that the two of you interned at the same company, attended the same college, or volunteered at the same organization, work it into the conversation. People tend to more easily trust others when they have something in common, so calling attention to any similarity can start the interview off on a high note. Of course, don't just blurt it out. Make sure you slip your similiarity into the conversation naturally. It's better to wait for the right moment and mention it later in your interview than to bring it up early out of context. 4. Build rapport with small talk. While it may be tempting to demonstrate your professionalism right from the jump, lean into moments of casual conversation. Allowing yourself to be seen as a person as opposed to only an applicant. This allows the interviewer to think of you in a better light, and allows you to build a connection that isn’t often established by straight business talk alone. Hired! Proof That There Are Still Jobs in Finance

Hired! Proof That There Are Still Jobs in Finance Hired! Proof That There Are Still Jobs in Finance FinanceLadder member Pam shares her story on pursuing jobs in the finance industry after being laid off.“I was pretty shocked and flabbergasted at being laid off,” said FinanceLadder member “Pam” of the termination of her position at the beginning of this year from a top-drawer global brokerage. Layoffs were in the air, but Pam had been an excellent performer and had not expected to be in the line of fire: “My reviews and compensation â€" and on Wall Street both reflect on your performance â€" had been some of the highest in the group. So, I would have expected that when it came time to layoffs, they would have looked more toward those who had lower scores on their reviews.”Instead, the company adopted a more sweeping approach. “They took a certain level of people and just laid them off, regardless of performance. So it certainly was a surprise.”To complicate matters further, Pam was out on maternity leave when the axe fell, making it hard to communicate her change in status to clients and colleagues at a time when Wall Street was awash with pink slips and white-collar workers were scrambling for the exit.Nevertheless, Pam refused to give up on finance. “I did think there were some positions out there, and you just have to be focused on where you are looking and not simply give up. Given that, I knew some places were only hiring a few people â€" I continued my search.”Pam signed up for FinanceLadder and said she found Ladders useful in three ways. “It has a resume-critique option that helped me brush up and bring my resume up to date. The second way that it was really helpful was that it weeded out those jobs that I would not have even considered. So that made the job search much more efficient. And thirdly, unlike some other Web sites, Ladders actually sends you e-mails with job options. So being the mother of a young child, getting e-mails every day in my field really helped.”Her resume turned the tidePam is now the assistant vice pres ident and counsel at a large, international asset-management company in New York. A resume that truly popped was, said Pam, the X factor in her final hiring process: “I do believe that, in my case, having a great resume helped me stand out among other applicants. There were about 30 applicants for the position, and the company was actually already in the process of hiring somebody else when my resume came in and they thought, ‘You know what? Why don’t we look at her as well?’ So having a great resume really made the difference.”Her enhanced resume shed new light on skills and experience essential to the position. Because her new role is in restructuring and distress, it is best-suited to a candidate with a legal background. “So that was really a big key,” said Pam, who has a law degree and has worked back and forth between law and business. “I was willing not only to focus on what I had been doing the past eight years, but what I did in my past by bringing back some of my older skill set to the table so that it would be considered as well. And that made a big difference.”Although not every Wall Street firm is shedding jobs, painfully few companies are able to acquire new staff. How could the new company afford her? Pam said it had been more prudent in the boom years than some investment firms. Furthermore, while the company is aggressive in some respects, it has tended to be a little more conservative when it counted. If few men are being hired in the six-figure category, even fewer female finance executives are nabbing top positions. So does gender bias still exist in the upper echelons of the finance world?“My experience on Wall Street … was that, yes, top management is very much a boys’ club, ” said Pam. “I think part of it could be that there is some bias, and I also think in some cases … the work environment [is] not a conducive one for someone with a family because the demands are just too great.“And, unfortunately, in fina nce and other competitive sectors as well, being very, very committed is really the only way to make it to the top. So it has hard to have both.” The exceptions to the rule, Pam said, are generally women who have a great support structure around them. “In my case, our boss is a woman, and she is the portfolio manager for the hedge funds in our group. Just looking at her and looking at her background, she was able to get to where she is because she has a husband who is very supportive of her.” Pam cites her husband as being her rock and her inspiration: “For example, yesterday our nanny called in sick and he stayed home with the baby. And if you don’t have that, it is hard to make it to the top.”

Interview Questions for a Medical Billing Specialist

Interview Questions for a Medical Billing Specialist Interview Questions for a Medical Billing Specialist Interview Questions for a Medical Billing Specialist Dezube Great medical billing and coding professionals are chameleons they are able to alter themselves to adapt to daily challenges. Theyre also empathetic with patients, assertive with insurance companies and analytical when they need to research claims. You can uncover all those qualities in job applicants if you know how to interview. Start with interview questionstailored to your practice, suggests Andrea Crawford, director of career services for Kaplan College,Chula Vista, California. Start by asking about the billing process with the insurance companies that your patients most often use, including the most common procedures done by your organization: Which insurance programs have you billed? Have you billed Medicare and our state insurance program or only PPOs? Which forms have you most often used in your current and former positions? Which procedures have you most often billed in your current and prior positions? Medical terminology is also important; some employers give a quick quiz on terminology and related codes before they hire, says Dr. Omar Sheriff, chair of the allied health program at Kaplan College, Hammond, Indiana. You can ask directly about medical terminology: Which medical terminology classes have you taken, says Sheriff, or tackle the issue by asking about terminology related to your practice: Do you know what the strep test is for? Do you know what otitis media is? Electronic Medical Records Knowledge As the healthcare industry moves toward electronic health records over the next five years and starts recruiting for HITECH,billing will need to keep up, so its important to ask job candidates about their experience with electronic medical records (EMR) or electronic health records (EHR). If theyve worked on paper and electronic claims, thats ideal, Crawford says. Does your current employer use EMR or EHR? What work did you do with EMR? Whats your computer experience been? Which type of software have you used: Epic, Medisoft, or other programs? Which version of that program do you use? Have you worked with an EMR claims clearinghouse? Hard-Skills Questions for Medical Billing Knowing how to interview medical billing job candidates about hard skills ensures that the person you hire can do the job accurately and file claims at a reasonable pace. Since healthcare insurance rules change daily, youll also need to assess how the job seeker keeps up with the latest edicts. Some organizations test candidates who make the short list by having them explain what theyd do to resolve an actual denied claim (with the patients information excised to protect health privacy). Questions that cover hard skills for medical billing jobs include: Do you have medical billing certification? If not, are you planning to get certified or in the process of getting certified? If theyre not keeping up, they may be billing incorrectly, Crawford says. How do you keep up-to-date with insurance and healthcare coverage changes? How long does it take you to process one days worth of patient visits or claims? Optimally, Crawford says, Youd want people to be within two days of the current day to be able to keep up. Soft-Skills Questions for Medical Billing Medical billers need a unique combination of soft skills, Crawford says. They have to have a bit of fight in them and not be afraid to challenge a claim denial, she says. They have to be patient, flexible, and able to diffuse patient emotions. They also have to have hard conversations with patients who arent paying their bills. To dig into those characteristics, ask behavioral questions: Tell me about the last claim you had denied. What happened, and how did you resolve it? What are your strategy and process for appealing claim denials? Tell me about your most hostile patient collection case. What was the problem you encountered? Were you able to negotiate payment? Do you think insurance companies sometimes play games to see if they can avoid paying claims? Knowing how to interview can help to uncover the skills required for a medical billing professional to cope with daily challenges. Recruiting a new hireproperly will enable you to maximize your practice revenue and work well with patients.
